Cargo Opportunities

Cargo Opportunities Abound

With 8 million people within 100 miles, Tampa's local Central Florida market is the largest in the Southeastern U.S. Being at the geographic center of the state, halfway between Miami and Jacksonville, the Tampa region is also an expanding distribution center gateway.Companies such as Rooms To Go, Southern Wines & Spirits, Lowes, Walmart, Havertys, Pepsico, Bealls, United Natural Foods, Kane’s Furniture, VF Image Wear, Ace Hardware, SYSCO/International Food Group, Publix, and Perry Ellis are among firms that have recently constructed and/or expanded distribution centers in the region.

The Executive Shippers’ Council is an association of over 100 key exporters and importers located within 100 miles of the port who control 200,000 TEUs a year. They are eager to support container lines that choose to call Tampa directly and avoid the considerable extra cost and inconvenience of having to truck their business to more distant ports such as Miami/Everglades or Savannah/ Jacksonville. The potential Tampa market includes more than 500,000 TEUs available within a competitive truck drive from the port.
